Grab the popcorn and let the lights go down! It’s time for a movie! But, not some girly chick-flick; a Real Man’s movie. For those nights when nothing but the toughest, testosterone-fueled motion pictures will satisfy your inner hero, we’ve compiled a list of 5 of the greatest Westerns ever made. Opinions may vary, but we think anyone of these will be near the top of any list.
5. The Magnificent Seven
Based on the Japanese film, Seven Samurai, The Magnificent Seven portrays seven quick-on-the-draw Cowboys, ready to protect an entire town from a band of wily bandits. It was so popular that it was remade in 2016 with Denzel Washington in the lead role.
4. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
Sergio Leone’s 1966 Spaghetti Western has become a cult classic. Although it was meant to be the final part of a trilogy, the film has come to stand alone. Starring Clint Eastwood, it’s also largely credited with his rise to fame.
3. The Searchers
Directed by John Ford and starring the immortal screen legend John Wayne, The Searchers is arguably one of The Duke’s best films. He plays an American Civil War veteran who goes on a journey, both physical and philosophical, to rescue his niece from the Comanche Indians.
2. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
Paul Newman and Robert Redford portray two outlaws on the run after a train heist gone wrong. The film won four Oscars and was selected by the Library of Congress to be contained within the National Film Registry in 2003.
1. True Grit
Of course John Wayne appears more than once on this list. His portrayal of Rooster Cogburn, the hard drinking, hard-nosed U.S. Marshal who helps a teenage girl track down her father’s murderer was so powerful, the film was a huge success and was remade in 2010 with Jeff Bridges in the lead role.
It doesn’t matter when these movies were filmed, you’ve probably seen most or at least heard of them. If not, grab your manly library card and check them out. If you’ve got other ideas about what should be on this list, let us know on our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/legendfragrances/
In the meantime, next time your wife or girlfriend suggests a movie night, see if she’s willing to cuddle up to one of these classic man flicks. If she is, make sure you smell good, and the best way to do that is with John Wayne: Duke cologne, because Real Men Never Go Out of Style.
